Laughter is Key

Today, as I listened to Kailyn read baby einstein, Touch and Feel Farm Animals to Aiden, I laughed out loud as she made the horse sounds to him. As I laughed, Aiden turned his head, looked at me, and smiled (I was sitting sorta behind him to the left)! I've never seen him turn toward a noise, just reactions as we're face to face talking! I laughed one of those teary eyed laughs and responded back with a, "you heard mommy laugh!" and a huge kiss on the cheek! PROGRESS with hearing aids right!!!

Over the past couple of days Aiden is also starting to giggle, not quite those all out baby belly laughs, but tiny giggles. Before, he would just smile real big and I'd keep waiting for any sound to come out; I was getting scared nothing ever would. But they're here and I'm sure those big belly laughs are right around the corner! I can't wait!

On another note, Aiden is three months old today. I took the big step and moved all of his things upstairs to his room ... I have to get him out of the bassinet in our room and into his crib and it's a hard transition (more for me than him I'm sure). I've done good so far though, he's on his second nap in his crib (aren't you proud of me mom)! We'll see if he makes it up there tonight!

Those small steps warm your heart. I remember the day Jared got his hearing aids, sitting at the dinner table and putting ice cubes in our glasses. Jared stopped and looked at the glass with this questioning look on his face. That is when we realized how much he had been missing and how thankful we were that he had his hearing aids.
I also know how you feel about moving your baby out of your room, it was only 6 months ago that we did the same thing with Jordan. It just made it real that he was growing up and ready for the big bad world of his crib, and yes it was harder on me than on him.

It is great to hear that Aiden is responding so well. Pretty soon he will be talking and probably won't want to stop!!

Ben gets his hearing tested again tomorrow. Hopefully the test comes back normal. His hearing hasn't been perfect since he was about 3 years old and the tubes seemed to have improved things, but he is now saying that it is hard to hear again. I don't know what to think.

I know the feeling of moving your baby to their own room. We had Sydney sleep in our room until she was about 6 months. We should have moved her sooner because we all slept better in our own space.

It will take some time and you will probably be finding yourself checking on him a few times a night for awhile but eventually you get used to it and the nightly visits get less and less.

See you soon,

Maggie and Steve

Hi

Just been wandering round the deaf/cochlear implant blog community and found you.

You are finding yourselves with this new set of circumstances and there are some hard times to work through but Aiden will thrive... these implants are just stunning - miracle workers if you will.

If you have the time and can take more information... wander over to http://www.mysontom.com

All the very best on the road ahead,

Jason, Nik and Tom
